Cadence Earrings

A pair of day-and-night earrings in high-carat gold, flat-cut almandine garnets deepening to wine red under candlelight. Whoever made it favoured cannetille goldwork. It is back-carved so the light enters from behind — the maker's quiet trick. It had spent two generations with a Highland family before it found its way to us, passed hand to hand and never once sold until now. It asks very little of whoever wears it next and gives back a great deal.
