A small Georgian thing, and a serious one. The chrysoberyl is deepening to quiet colour under candlelight, the cannetille goldwork unmistakable. It is finished on the inside as carefully as on the face, where no one would ever look. It reached us out of a Bruges family, unworn for a lifetime and none the worse for it. It is the kind of thing you buy once and never think to replace.
