The Cinder Spray

An Edwardian crescent brooch, the old-cut diamonds catching the light along one edge and nowhere else. The gallery is sawn through with a saw-blade no thicker than a hair. It came to us from an estate in the Scottish borders, still in the fitted box it was put away in. Nothing about it was made to impress, which is exactly why it does.
